The bible, as well as a source of spurious wisdom, is also useful in its provision of an epic backdrop and a plethora of quotes for any type of discussion, especially for those occasions when we follow our Lord Jesus Christ valiantly into the desert in order to enjoy our date with Satan. Unlike Christ, we’ve had the forethought to plan our trip and are therefore proud to produce our unique preview to Monegros 2012.
Self promoted as ‘the biggest rave in Spain’, you’ll be joining 40,000 other sweat soaked, screaming, slipping, slobbering socialites for a day of feral debauchery. You certainly get your money’s worth; acts are playing for twenty two hours on five simultaneous stages, the cream of which include The Prodigy, Subfocus, Caspa, Paul Kalkbrenner and the iconic Wu Tang Clan, our feature on whom is available here. A mixed genre festival then, combining dubstep with rap, electro, techno and hip hop, promising a variety to entertain anyone with enough adrenaline to survive the experience.
Difficulties? Well, getting there from Barcelona will involve a fair bit of travelling as the verdant lands surrounding this city are not exactly the ripe conditions to host a desert festival. You’ll be heading inland near to parched Zaragoza, where temperatures in mid July will be reaching up to forty degrees! The best way to arrive would be on the official Monegros buses that run from Barcelona directly to the festival, though places could be limited on these. Other options include a train to Lleida and a bus from there or, if you happen to be so lucky so as to have your own means of transport, it’s a two hour drive by car through some rather uninteresting scenery. We do advise you to remember to keep drinking water as there is always the risk of dehydration and we’d hate to see anyone martyred in the name of music on our account. Water or not, one thing we can guarantee is that, like our amigo Jesús, you will stagger out of this hallucinatory adventure in the desert, bodies broken, on the point of collapse, but feeling like a God.
